Legal Proceedings
On August 16, 1999, the International Coalition for Religious Freedom, in conjunction with individual members of various religious movements, filed a suit in the U.S. District Court in in the State of Maryland asking for a permanent injunction against the Task Force Proceedings. The plaintiffs argued that the legislative resolution that created the Task Force was unconstitutional because it violated the Constitutionally guaranteed right of free exercise of religion. Plaintiffs further alleged that the activities of the Task Force were unconstitutional. Later, ICRF filed a formal complaint that the proceedings of the Task Force violated the State of Maryland requiring open meetings. These documents are available below.
