C-056(1)          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH The “Lost Years” of Jesus (Part 1): Did Jesus Go East?
Ron Rhodes
New Age Movement
The Gospels tell us nothing about the life of Jesus between the ages of 12 and 30. Many New Agers claim that the young Jesus went to India to learn spiritual secrets from gurus or "ascended masters." This myth has been widely circulated due a sensational 19th-century publication by a Russian military journalist.
These two articles, taken from Ron Rhodes’s book The Counterfeit Christ of the New Age Movement (Baker Book House, 1991), analyze the arguments of respected scholars against this New Age theory.

C-057          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Discussing the Bible with New Agers
Elliot Miller
New Age Movement
New Agers disregard the Bible’s claim to be the only inspired Scripture and approach it from the standpoint of their own experience and intuition and thus are not willing to understand the Bible on its own terms.
Here you will find some practical suggestions for witnessing to New Agers. The Author demonstrates one of the evangelistic approaches using the fundamental New Age doctrine of the divinity of all things as an example.
C-058          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH The Watchtower Society’s New Policy on Blood Transfusions
Jehovah's Witnesses
The decades-long ban on blood transfusions is one of the most famous and dreadful edicts of the Jehovah's Witness organization. The Blizzard family's experience is a tragic illustration of how this policy can affect the movement's members. In recent years the policy has undergone a number of noteworthy changes -- some serious, some merely cosmetic.
C-059          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Can a Christian Be “Demonized”?
Brent Grimsley, Elliot Miller
Other
The authors analyze three principal points of view on the possibility of a Christian being “demonized”.
Spiritual warfare doctrine is enormously popular today. Nevertheless the question “Can a Christian be ‘demonized’?” has more than purely academic value because the answer would determine both a pastor’s reaction and a believer’s perception of his position in the battle with the powers of darkness.
C-060          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH Enter the Dragon? Wrestling with the Martial Arts Phenomenon
Erwin de Castro, B.J. Oropeza, Ron Rhodes
Other
The article analyzes such widely discussed issues as:
1) May a Christian practice the martial arts?
2) Is it right for Christians to defend themselves via the use physical force?
The authors review a number of arguments proposed by the martial arts opponents and reach the conclusion that under certain circumstances a Christian may practice the Eastern martial arts. Nevertheless, this article presents the opinion of only one (although very large) group of Christians and does not pretend to be a comprehensive expression of the opponents’ arguments.
C-061          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           “Do Not Become Slaves of Men”
Sergey Mikhailin
Jehovah's Witnesses
You may have already read the testimony of former Jehovah's Witness elder David Reed (A-041), the story of the Blizard family (A-011), or other CFAR materials which reveal the dramatic experience of those who gave many years of their lives to the Watchtower organization.
Although the author of this article did not limit the circle of his spiritual search to one religious teaching, he liked Christianity most of all. That’s why Sergey thought he had finally discovered true Christians when he met Jehovah’s Witnesses. What brought about the disillusionment of a Watchtower congregational secretary? Find out in his own words.
C-062          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           The Faith Movement and Mormonism
Word Faith
Mormons appeal to Psalm 80:6 to claim that men can spiritually progress to become "gods." What a surprise that the Faith Movement’s leaders use the same verse to support their teaching that Christians should be considered “little gods.” This article analyzes the extraordinary doctrinal similarities shared by these two religious movements.
C-063          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH Jehovah’s Witnesses and “the Superior Authorities”
Roger DeLozier
Jehovah's Witnesses
Who are “the Superior Authorities” of Romans 13, and to what extent must people obey them? The author, a CFAR researcher, examines changes in the JWs' teachings on this subject, basing his conclusions on a careful review of original Watchtower publications.
C-065          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           The History of the Ecumenical Councils
Sergey Gushchin
Other
Believers have sought to defend God’s revelation in its purity throughout the history of the Christian Church. Ecumenical Councils were called on to denounce false teachers and to discuss dogmatic and canonical issues. Here you will find a short overview of the issues discussed at these gatherings and the resolutions approved.
C-067          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH “Local Church” Update: Witness Lee Dies — Stream Ministry Continues Expansion Plans
Robert and Gretchen Passantino
Local Church
Although “Brother Lee” died in 1997, the movement seems to have taken his demise in stride. The proliferation of Witness Lee's materials continues unabated. In addition to this, the Living Stream Ministry uses the Internet and nearly three dozen radio stations in the United States and Central America to disseminate the “unique teachings” of the “Local Church” movement. This article provides a helpful overview of the group's recent history (and controversies).

Arthur M. Casci
Local Church
Pursuit of a “living” community brought Arthur Casci to the Local Church of Witness Lee. What attracted him to the movement -- and what forced him to leave it after 10 years of earnest service?
This testimony offers a unique opportunity to view Lee’s movement from within.
C-069          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Kinds of Heretical Doctrines
Robert M. Bowman, Jr.
General Apologetics
Heresy is any doctrine which the Bible explicitly labels as destructive, damning error. These doctrines the Bible instructs are not to be tolerated in the church. Furthermore, heresy is any doctrine which, even if not mentioned in the Bible, utterly contradicts those truths which the Bible indicates are essential for sound Christian faith.
C-070          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           A Look at the
Bill McKeever
Mormonism
A common criticism Latter-day Saints make against Christian apologetics organizations is that non-Mormons cannot speak authoritatively about Mormonism. It is often said that "If you want to know what Mormonism teaches, ask a Mormon."
It would make sense that Gospel Principles, which is an official LDS Church manual, would give authentic LDS teachings. However, quotations from the book (which is often used by Mormon missionaries to introduce LDS doctrine to potential converts) prove that Christian criticism is supported by solid references.
C-071          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)          ENGLISH Six Enemies of Apologetic Engagement
Douglas Groothuis
General Apologetics
Unfortunately, the Christian world lacks a strong intellectual presence in academic and popular culture. The reasons for this situation are multidimensional and complex. The author briefly sets forth factors that illegitimately inhibit apologetic engagement today.
C-072          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           The Christadelphians' “Bible Basics”
Sergey Gushchin
Other
We are often asked about a textbook called “Bible Basics,” published by “The Christadelphian Church” in 1992. At first this book appears to teach the doctrines of the historic Christian faith and help readers to better understand the Bible. But beware: The Christadelphians firmly reject many of the central beliefs of Christianity.
C-073          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Witness Lee's “Recovery Version
Sergey Gushchin
Local Church
The “Recovery Version" of the New Testament was released by the Living Stream Ministry’s editorial committee in Anaheim, California in the middle of the 1980s. Witness Lee, the controversial founder of the Local Church movement, took the most active part in this project. In 1998 the “Recovery Version” was translated into Russian and became available to Russian Christians. Unfortunately, many of them are unaware of the aberrant theology behind its publishers’ teachings.

Sharon Fish
New Age Movement
Sharon Fish is a professional nurse, author and co-author of various publications related to health care and New Age nursing. In this article she analyses roots and methods of Therapeutic Touch as well as its connections with psychic, occultism and witchcraft.
C-075          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Was There a Prophet Among Us? A Critical Assessment of a Revelation Given by William M. Branham
Dmitriy Rozet
Other
Few preachers influenced the development of the Pentecostal and charismatic movements in the second half of the 20th century as greatly as William Marrion Branham. Nearly fifty years after his death, his extraordinary views continue to stir controversy. Scripture gives well-defined tests which must be applied to the pronouncements of anyone claiming to be a true prophet. Can “the prophet of the Laodicean Church Age” withstand the examination of the Word of God? Open your Bible and analyze Branham's words for yourself.
C-076          PDF (Russian)          HTML (Russian)           Witnessing to Disciples of the International Churches of Christ
Joanne Ruhland
Boston Church of Christ
At first glance, members of the International Churches of Christ appear to be Christians who are excited about serving the Lord. Although they claim that the Bible is their only source of doctrine, ICC disciples are actually members of one of the fastest-growing heretical movements in the world.
Why classify this seemingly Bible-based organization as cultic? Joanne Ruhland, a specialist on this movement, answers this question and provides proven methods for helping people escape.
